Your subscription lives in Settings → Billing. The plan card shows what you are on and what happens next, and its button and menu hold every change you can make. This page walks through each one, including how pausing works and what you keep when you cancel.

The plan card

  • Name and status: Pro or Max with a badge: Active, Trial, Cancelling, Pausing, Paused or Payment failed.
  • Status line: your renewal date, or what is scheduled, such as "Switches to Pro on" a date, "Ends on" a date, or "Paused until" a date.
  • Billing line: your billing cycle and the payment method on file.
  • One main button that changes with your situation, from Switch to quarterly to Reactivate plan or Resume now.
  • The menu holds Downgrade plan on Max, Switch to monthly on quarterly billing, Cancel plan or Cancel plan change, Update payment method and View invoices.

Upgrading to Max

Open the credits pill on the dashboard, click Add credits, then Or upgrade to Max. You get two options:

  • Today: you pay for Max now, the Max credits are added on top of your current balance immediately, and your renewal date moves to one month from today.
  • At end of term: you stay on Pro until your renewal date, then switch to Max, pay for it and get the Max credits. Nothing is charged today.

Upgrade to Max

At end of termYou'll switch to Max on November 12, 2026 and pay on that date. You won't be charged today.
TodayYou'll switch to Max now, pay today, and get new credits. Your plan renews one month from today, and any leftover credits roll over.
CancelConfirm
Upgrade today for credits right away, or at the end of the term for no charge today.

Switching today is available on monthly billing. On quarterly billing the upgrade happens at the end of the current quarter.

Downgrading to Pro

On Max, open the plan card menu, pick Downgrade plan and confirm. The downgrade takes effect at the end of your current period. Until then you keep Max and its credits, and the status line shows the switch date.

Monthly and quarterly billing

  • Monthly to quarterly: click Switch to quarterly on the plan card and confirm. The switch happens at the end of your current month. From then on you are charged once every three months at a lower overall price and receive the whole quarter's credits at once.
  • Quarterly to monthly: open the menu and pick Switch to monthly. The switch happens at the end of your current quarter.

Scheduled changes

A downgrade, a billing cycle switch and an upgrade at the end of term are scheduled changes. Only one can be scheduled at a time, and a new one replaces the old one. The status line shows what is coming, and the menu shows Cancel plan change, which undoes it and changes nothing else. Pausing or cancelling also drops a scheduled change, and no changes are possible while paused.

Pausing

If now is not the right time to work on your business, pause instead of cancelling. Open the menu, pick Cancel plan, and the first screen offers a pause. Choose one, two or three months and click Pause subscription.

Subscription pause

How about a pause?

We get it. Right now might not be the best time to work on your business. You can pause your subscription instead of cancelling and return when you're ready.

1 monthPause subscription

Your subscription will be paused from November 12 and renew on December 12.

Never mindDecline offer
A pause starts when your current period ends, and you are charged again only when it is over.

Here is what happens:

  1. Until your current period ends, nothing changes. You keep full access and your credits, the badge reads Pausing, and the status line shows the pause dates. Changed your mind? Click Don't pause and the pause is removed.
  2. During the pause, you are not charged and you get no new credits. Buildpad does not answer messages, and a banner with a Resume button shows in your projects. Your projects, your remaining credits and your published websites are kept as they are.
  3. When the pause ends, you are charged for a full period, a new billing cycle starts on that date, and you receive credits as on any renewal.

You do not have to wait. Click Resume now at any point during the pause: you are charged that day, your credits are available right away, and a new period starts from that day.

Pausing needs an active paid subscription, so it is not available during the trial, during a failed payment or after cancelling, and after a pause you cannot pause again for a few months. Cancelling while paused ends the subscription immediately.

Cancelling

Open the menu and pick Cancel plan. Buildpad offers a pause first, asks why you are leaving, and then shows a final confirmation. Click Confirm & cancel and you will not be billed again.

Until the end of the period you paid for, nothing changes: you keep access, your plan and your credits. The badge reads Cancelling, the status line shows the end date, and Buildpad emails you a week before. To undo the cancellation, click Reactivate plan.

When the period ends:

  • Your plan ends and no further charges happen.
  • Your credit balance goes to zero, including any packs you bought.
  • Your published websites go offline, including any on a custom domain, until you subscribe again.
  • Your projects and everything on the canvas are kept. You can open and read them, but Buildpad will not answer until you subscribe again.

Cancelling during your trial stops the trial from turning into a paid subscription. See Free trial. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription, so cancel first.

Subscribing again

After a cancellation your account is a free account. Click Upgrade in the dashboard badge or in the credits pill, choose Pro or Max, and complete the checkout. You are charged immediately, your credits are available at once, and there is no second trial. See Plans.

Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails, the badge reads Payment failed and Buildpad stops answering messages until it is sorted. Your credit balance is set aside, not lost, and the credits pill shows the held amount in brackets. Click Update payment method on the plan card, or Restore access in the banner, to enter a new card. Once a payment goes through, your held credits come back with the new period's credits and everything works again.

Pausing is not available during a failed payment. Cancel plan in this state ends the subscription immediately.

Payment method, invoices and receipts

Update payment method and View invoices in the plan card menu both open the billing portal, where you can change your card and download every invoice and receipt.

To get invoices by email, turn on Email receipts below the plan card. Each paid invoice, for renewals and credit packs alike, is then sent to your account email as a PDF. The toggle is off by default.

Refunds

Refunds go through support. Send a request from the contact form with "Purchase or subscription issue" selected. Only your latest payment can be refunded, and credit packs are not refundable.

A refund is possible when the payment was recent and you have barely used the plan since, or, for consumers in the EU and the UK, within the legal withdrawal period after a payment. A refund ends your subscription immediately, and the money arrives within 5 to 10 business days. Otherwise charges are non-refundable, with no partial refunds for unused time, so cancel to stop further charges instead.

Tip

If you are only stepping away for a while, pause instead of cancelling. Your credits and websites stay as they are, and you are charged again only when you come back.
